Punjab has officially announced the “Pink Games”, a landmark initiative to promote women’s participation in sports across the province.
The decision was finalized in a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Sports Faisal Ayub Khokhar, alongside Sports Secretary Muzaffar Sial and Director General Sports Khizar Afzal Chaudhry, who reviewed logistics and preparations for the mega event.
“This will be Punjab’s biggest women’s sports event. More than 3,000 women athletes will take part, representing all divisions of Punjab,” stated Minister Khokhar, emphasizing the government’s commitment to gender equality through sport.
The Pink Games are set to mark a historic breakthrough in women’s sports, backed by millions in prize money. While Punjab has previously promoted women athletes through inter-school and inter-college tournaments, this flagship event takes inclusivity to a higher level.
Officials describe the Pink Games as part of a broader sports development strategy to improve facilities, address gender disparities, and provide women athletes a platform to compete at provincial, national, and international levels.
The final list of disciplines will be confirmed soon, but athletics, hockey, basketball, archery, tape-ball cricket, badminton, and table tennis are expected to be included, as in the past.
With preparations underway, the Khelta Punjab Pink Games are shaping up to be a historic celebration of women’s strength, skill, and empowerment in sports.
