Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi has unveiled plans to launch a new passenger train service between Karachi and Sukkur, backed by an investment of Rs. 6 billion. The service will feature modern air-conditioned coaches and operate on upgraded tracks, aiming to provide a faster and more comfortable travel experience.
The announcement was made during a meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where discussions also focused on the revival of the long-delayed Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project. The chief minister stressed the urgency of joint efforts between Pakistan Railways and the provincial government to push forward the KCR, which has faced repeated delays.
Shah also suggested outsourcing certain operations to enhance service delivery and called for priority upgrades to the Karachi-to-Rohri rail line, a critical route for commuters that could significantly improve efficiency and capacity.
Both federal and provincial officials agreed to take immediate steps to remove encroachments along railway lines, clearing the way for new projects and smoother railway operations in the future.
The new Karachi–Sukkur train is expected to not only improve regional connectivity but also provide much-needed relief to thousands of daily passengers.
