Pakistan is moving closer to launching next-generation mobile connectivity as the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is expected to issue 5G licenses to telecom companies during the current week.
According to officials, the development could allow telecom operators to begin preparations for rolling out 5G mobile services in major cities across the country. The announcement is expected to bring positive news for telecom users ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, as Pakistan prepares to take a significant step toward faster and more advanced digital connectivity.
Licenses to Be Issued to Three Telecom Operators
Sources familiar with the process revealed that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority plans to issue licenses simultaneously to all three telecom companies that successfully participated in the spectrum auction.
However, before receiving the licenses, each telecom operator must fulfill regulatory requirements set by the authority. One of the key conditions includes submitting a bank guarantee worth $15 million.
So far, one telecom company has already submitted the required bank guarantee, while the remaining two companies are expected to complete the process within the next few days.
Once all guarantees are received, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority will formally issue the 5G licenses and sign agreements with the telecom operators.
Preparations for 5G Rollout
After the licenses are issued, telecom companies will begin preparations for launching 5G services in major cities, including infrastructure upgrades, network testing, and deployment of compatible equipment.
The introduction of 5G technology is expected to significantly improve internet speeds, reduce latency, and enhance mobile connectivity across Pakistan.
Boost for Digital Economy
Experts believe that the launch of 5G could become a major milestone for Pakistan’s digital transformation. Faster connectivity will support sectors such as IT services, freelancing, digital businesses, smart cities, and e-commerce.
Industry leaders say the introduction of 5G could also strengthen Pakistan’s growing IT export sector by enabling faster communication, cloud services, and digital innovation.
With preparations underway, Pakistan may soon join the growing list of countries offering next-generation mobile technology to consumers and businesses.
